Fleet Update March 31 2015

Ted is quizzing me on bike progress and I realize I need to blog some info down before I forget.

A week ago it threatened to maybe rain on an early Monday AM ride, so I wisely put on the fenders to fend off any possible precipitation - only it failed, we got dumped on halfway up Spruce, over all of Grizzly and back into Oakland hills and home. Then the sun came out and I took a picture to
prove I used the fenders despite the drought.

The other distraction I have is souping up Z's little bike. Chain Reaction in the UK sold me some 1.85 inch Rocket Ron's, which I put on the set of old racing Mavic/XT 28 spoke rims. I kept the Slime filled tubes, but it saved a bunch of weight over the original 36 spoke monsters.

I am pondering putting on a spare 9 speed cassette and 9 speed shifters, but this will take a better rear derailleur, chain. Thought about making it a 1x9, but the range is a bit limited.

THEN I decided he better actually ride it, or want to ride it. Fortunately, I can build this up for  M if not for Z.

Other news:

  • The parts are in for a conversion to XT Brakes on the Scott 29er, from Merlin Cycles in the UK, Center-Lock Disks from Amazon. 180mm and 160mm, which were on it in the first place :/
  • Merlin Cycles also has the RS485 hydraulic levers/11 speed STI shifters I need for the FM166 - but I need 11 speed rear wheel, derailleur and chain. The Chinese Carbon wheels are still a possibility, but my list of wishes is long, not sure how this rig fits in.
  • Got to prepare for Boggs, looking to add a 3rd to the 2 man team as I am not at the fitness I expected to be (bad Feb) and my partner Adam is hurting too.
